Lufthansa Technik used the 10th anniversary celebration of the opening of its facility in Budapest to announce the launch of its new product, Total Base Maintenance Support (TBS).
The concept of TBS is aimed at nose-to-tail maintenance of an airline’s entire fleet. The German MRO’s argument is that by negotiating a single deal in this way it can offer a programme that takes care of the fleet over a number of years, instead of the airline having to issue multiple RFPs as each aircraft comes up for service. With forward planning, it can also guarantee slot availability at the right time in one of the hangars on the network. It also incorporates other products such as Total Component Support (TCS), which enables it to manage materials support for aircraft checks, or Management of Component Overhaul and Repair (MORE), which is specially designed for aircraft layovers. It also offers a flat pricing structure using billing per flight hour or per month instead of a fixed price per check, helping the airline’s cash flow.
